How to set up MT5 copy trading with your own broker

MT5 copy trading mirrors a strategy’s trades onto your own MetaTrader 5 account. With Elite Gold Academy, you connect your broker account in the app and the team handles onboarding. Your broker holds your trading funds. You can connect up to two MT5 accounts, including a demo account for testing.

What you need before connecting an MT5 account

Start with an existing MetaTrader 5 account at your broker. MT4 and MT5 are separate platforms: an MT4 login cannot be used as an MT5 login. Check the account type in your broker dashboard before submitting a connection.

Your account number, trading server and trading password identify the MT5 account. The server name must match the broker’s account details, including whether it is a live or demo server. A broker website password is different from an MT5 trading password.

An investor password gives read-only access. It can display positions and account history, but it cannot place the copied orders on a receiving account. MetaQuotes explains this distinction in its account authorization documentation linked below. Submit account details only through the account connection flow, never through a public form or email.

  • An MT5 account number and the exact broker server name.
  • The credentials requested by the in-app connection flow.
  • An Elite Gold Academy account on iOS or Android.
  • A clear choice of demo or live account and the amount of risk you are willing to take.

Connect your broker account in five steps

The EGA app is where you request a connection. Installing MetaTrader 5 alone does not connect an account to EGA, and submitting a request does not mean the account is already copying.

  • Download Elite Gold Academy from the App Store or Google Play and register your account.
  • Open the copy trading area and enter the MT5 account details requested by the app.
  • Check the account number and broker server carefully before submitting the request.
  • Follow the onboarding instructions and confirm that the connection is active before expecting mirrored orders.
  • Monitor the account in your broker’s MT5 terminal. Check actual orders, execution prices, position sizes and account history.

Can I test MT5 copy trading on a demo account?

A demo account lets you understand the connection and observe copied orders using simulated money. EGA allows up to two MT5 accounts, so a demo account can be used alongside another account. Ask onboarding support about your intended setup before switching to live trading.

A useful demo check is operational: do trades appear, is the correct instrument used, and can you explain the lot size and stop loss? Demo profit alone does not show what live execution will produce. Live spreads, slippage, liquidity and broker conditions can differ.

Do not use a short winning period as the only reason to increase exposure. Review the losing trades and open drawdown as well as closed profit. A setup that you understand is more useful than a headline return without context.

Why are trades not copying onto my MT5 account?

Start with the connection status and the account details. If there is no active connection, the issue is onboarding rather than a missing market signal. If the connection is active, ask support to check the specific account and rejected order.

Why are trades not copying onto my MT5 account?
CheckWhat to verify
Account and platformThe account is MT5, and the number matches your broker dashboard.
ServerThe exact live or demo server is selected. Similar broker names can refer to different servers.
AccessThe receiving account has trading permission; investor access is read-only.
Connection statusYour request has completed onboarding and the connection is active.
Broker conditionsThe instrument is available, the market is open and margin is sufficient for the order.

Will copied trades have exactly the same result?

A copied trade can have a different fill price or result from its source. Your broker’s spread, execution timing, available margin, contract size and minimum volume affect the receiving account. Gold may also use a different symbol name at different brokers.

Compare the trade on your own account with the expected instrument, direction and risk rather than assuming identical cash profit. If an order is missing or unexpectedly sized, contact EGA through in-app support with the trade reference. Do not publish account credentials when troubleshooting.

EGA onboarding is a separate service from the built-in MQL5 Signals marketplace. You do not need to buy an MQL5 signal subscription merely to request an EGA connection. Use EGA’s in-app setup instructions for EGA copying.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to change brokers to use EGA?

You can request a connection for your existing MT5 broker account. Confirm the broker server and account compatibility with onboarding support. Deposits and withdrawals remain with your broker.

Can EGA withdraw my trading funds?

EGA does not take trading deposits or hold your trading capital. You manage withdrawals directly through your broker. Trading access can place orders, which can still result in losses.

How many MT5 accounts can I connect?

Elite Gold Academy supports up to two MT5 accounts per user. A demo account can be included in your setup.

What should I check before stopping copying?

Review both the connection status and any open positions in MT5. Stopping future copying and closing an existing position are separate actions. Confirm how open trades will be managed with support.
